Loveseats

Whether you want to cuddle up with that special someone or just get a little extra seating next to your sofa, loveseats can be the perfect solution. Compact but plush, loveseats are shorter and narrower than a sofa without sacrificing cushioning or comfort.

Thanks to their smaller design and various options for size, shape, and upholstery, loveseats are among the most versatile options for furniture you can find. From the porch or patio to the living room or den, loveseats can work almost anywhere in your home or apartment - and Art Van has one of the widest selections of loveseats for sale anywhere. Take a look at our loveseats and find the one perfect for your taste, size, and budget.

Buying Guide

The amount of options you have when it comes to picking a loveseat may surprise you. When most people hear the word ‘loveseat’, they tend to think of the standard design similar to a smaller version of a sofa or a couch. While that’s not the worst way to describe it, the truth is loveseats come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, perfect for nearly any room in your home, or homes of any size.

What Kind of Loveseat Should I Buy?

Loveseats come in a few different styles and designs, each with their own unique offerings and advantages when compared with others. A few of the more common loveseat types include:

  • Loveseats – The most common style. Loveseats are typically a couch with two seats, smaller than a typical sofa but with a similar size and shape. While they go by different names all over the world, the intention is the same wherever you go - to provide comfortable, compact seating in areas that might not have enough space for a full sofa.
  • Settee – Settees are similarly designed to loveseats, and though a lot of people use the terms interchangeably that’s not exactly accurate. While loveseats are specifically designed to comfortably sit two people (hence the name), settee loveseats tend to be a little wider and narrower to accommodate a third person, and frequently have no arms for a little more ‘open’ design. These could be a great alternative to a loveseat depending on how much space you have to work with.
  • Chesterfield Loveseat – Similar to traditional loveseats, Chesterfield loveseats are based upon the vintage design of the British Chesterfield sofa. These sofas are known for their low back and retro-looking curved armrests, known as “scroll arms”. They’re frequently made from leather or vinyl to complete the throwback look.
  • Theater Loveseats – One of the more modern examples of loveseats, theater loveseats are designed to look like the fancy reclining chairs seen in movie theaters. They break a little from typical loveseat design by offering a center console between the seats. This console can act as a cupholder, or a place to keep your snacks, remotes, and other home theater necessities.
  • Patio Loveseats – Patio loveseats offer the same comfort and design as an indoor loveseat, and typically have a wicker or rattan base to make it more suitable for porches and patios through all of the seasons.

From there, you just need to decide on what you need in a loveseat and figure out which ones will serve your needs best. For example, do you just want a comfortable place to sit down? Do you live in a smaller space that can’t fit an entire sofa, or do you just want a loveseat that can sit adjacent to your current couch for even extra seating space? Do you have a particular look you’re going for, or do you just want something modern and comfortable?

Loveseats can also come with a number of features that could influence your purchase. For example, sleeper loveseats offer the same convertible-bed capability that sleeper sofas provide but in a more compact design, perfect for smaller spaces or even guest rooms to accommodate overnight company. Fold-out loveseats offer similar functionality, offering reclining space and fold-out mattresses for holiday visitors or those nights where you just don’t want to leave the living room. Reclining loveseats combine the best of plush reclining chairs with the space of a loveseat, meaning you and your cuddle buddy get to relax in style.

There are enough loveseats out there. The choice comes down to personal preference and the needs of your space.

What Style of Recliner Should I Get?

With all these options, you should ask yourself two things before deciding on a recliner: how much space do you have, and what do you want out of your recliner?

What Size Loveseat Should I Buy?

Due to their design and function, most recliners need a lot more space than normal chairs to work properly. Generally speaking, recliners take up more space when reclined than when they’re not, and this needs to be taken into account when planning for a new recliner in your home. The leg component of a recliner sweeps upward in the front, and the back component leans back. Make sure you have ample room for your recliner to stretch out.

With this in mind, consider your space. Glider and rocker recliner need to be put in your room away from walls to give them space to recline and move around.

If you live in an apartment, or have a smaller living room, a wall recliner may be the solution. Wall recliners are designed to not move back as far as a standard recliner thanks to a special track installed in the base.

Loveseat Fabrics & Upholstery

Loveseats these days are available in a nearly endless collection of styles, fabric colors, and upholstery options.

One of the most common choices is the leather loveseat. Whether paired to the color of your main sofa or upholstered in a different color to create a contrasting, two-tone look, leather loveseats are a popular choice for most homes.

But maybe you’re not into the leather look - luckily, loveseats offer plenty of choice there too. Loveseats can be upholstered in vinyl, linen, cotton, or even silk to create a look (and feel) that’s just as luxurious as you want without the sort of upkeep that leather occasionally requires.

A lot of loveseats these days offer a more ‘retro’ vibe with their styling and upholstery options too. Many loveseats go for a midcentury modern look with solid colors, durable fabric upholstery and low-profile design, combining vintage upholstery and style with modern design and construction to keep you comfortable.

Buying a new loveseat is a perfect opportunity to either enhance your current look and style or breathe some new life into your current living room through your preferred choice in color and upholstery, and your options are nearly endless.
