Foam Mattresses

Foam mattresses have been one of the biggest hits in recent mattress development, but they're more than a fad - memory foam mattresses are here to stay.

Offered by some of the biggest names in mattresses, memory foam mattresses are made from a solid foam core that gradually contours to your body over time (hence the name “memory foam”). Many sleepers prefer this construction as they offer much more stable support than spring-based mattress designs, as well as temperature control and in many cases, pain relief to sleepers with joint or bone issues.

Memory foam mattresses have gotten this popular for a reason, and their benefits are numerous no matter what you need in a mattress. Knowing what kind of memory foam will suit you best can go a long way towards helping you sleep better than ever.

Types of Memory Foam Mattress

Even if they’re all designed the same way and serve similar functions, there are many types of foam mattress with subtle differences that can have a big impact on your comfort and sleep every night.

Memory foam mattresses, for example, can be made out of many different types of material alongside the standard foam core. A few common material types include:

  • Latex Foam – Similar to the latex foam tops seen on hybrid mattresses, many memory foam mattresses are made with a latex foam blend. The addition of latex allows for greater contouring as well as increased cooling as the material doesn’t retain heat like other materials do.
  • Graphite Foam – Graphite foam offers the same contouring and comfort as standard foam or even latex foam, but with an extra emphasis on cooling. Injected with graphite, this foam draws heat away from your body more quickly for a more comfortable night’s sleep.
  • Cooling gel/copper gel foam mattress – A common inclusion in memory foam mattresses, cooling gel layers help reduce the overall temperature of the mattress. Cooling gel (and its related material, copper gel) is frequently used alongside the other materials used in the foam mattress for even greater comfort.
Firm vs. Soft?

Another common distinction between memory foam mattresses of any material or style is the density of the foam itself. Similar to innerspring mattresses, memory foam is typically available in three different densities: soft, firm, and extra firm. While each one offers the same sort of comfort, support, and relaxation, the difference between firm and soft will always come down to personal preference. Some people prefer a softer memory foam mattress that you can really sink into, others prefer the support that firm and extra firm mattresses can provide. Memory Foam Mattress Sizes

Memory foam mattresses come in the same sizes most mattresses do, which means the switch to memory foam from your previous mattress won’t require a new bedroom or any major room remodeling on your part. Memory foam mattresses can be purchased in any size from twin and full to king, queen, and even California king to fit bedrooms and beds of any size, in maximum comfort.
